MMAWeekly has confirmed that a light heavyweight bout between Jon Jones andVladimir Matyushenko has been added to UFC on Versus 2. The card is expected totake place in Salt Lake City on Aug. 1.
In his last fight, Jones scored the biggest win in his career, as he stoppedBrandon Vera in the first round with a vicious elbow strike. So far the onlyloss in Jones’ career came by way of illegal strikes, when he was disqualifiedagainst Matt Hamill.
Matyushenko returned to the UFC at UFC 103 for the first time since UFC 44.During his current stint in the Octagon he is 2-0 with decision victories overIgor Pokrajac and Eliot Marshall. Since 2005, Matyushenko is 11-1, with hisonly loss coming against Antonio Rogerio Nogueira at Affliction: Day ofReckoning.
UFC on Versus 2 will also feature a lightweight bout between Joe Stevenson andTakanori Gomi. Jake Ellenberger will also return against John Howard.
