On this edition of No Holds Barred, host Eddie Goldmanreviews the 2009 ADCC Submission Fighting World Championships (adccbarcelona.com), whichtook place September 26-27 in Barcelona, Spain, with our colleague Kid Peligro,a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt, a senior editor of the ADCC News (http://www.adcombat.com/),and a correspondent on our show. The ADCC (Abu Dhabi Combat Club) tournament isan invitation-only event which takes place every two years to determine thebest no-gi grapplers in the world.

We discuss the performance of the many stars who competed in this event,including Braulio Estima, who won both the Absolute and under 88kg divisions,and Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza, who decisioned Robert Drysdale in theSuperfight. We evaluate the significance of this event, which Kid said is”getting bigger and bigger,” why its future is “bright,”the growing role of the ADCC Regionals in North America which are qualifiersfor the 2011 ADCC tournament, the problem of athletes training for bothgrappling and mixed martial arts at the same time, and much more.
