The United States Food and Drug Administration has issued a warning about 14 supplements manufactured by  Iovate Health Sciences Inc. of Oakville, Ontario under the ´Hydroxycut´ name.  The products have been linked to liver damage and one death due to liver failure.  The FDA warning states that anyone using these products should immediately stop.

Supplement use is popular among MMA fans, and is especially prevalent among MMA competitors at all levels.  The Hydroxycut line is marketed for those looking to lose weight and body fat.  The MMA forums that serve the fighter communities are filled with recommendations on which products to use to look good, lose weight and also which help with the process of cutting weight which is so needed for MMA competition.  It is important to note that these types of supplements do not undergo the same type of scrutiny and regulation as do prescription drugs, and many of them go to market after only limited testing.

Iovate Health Sciences, which sold more than 9 million units of it´s Hydroxycut line in 2008 alone, has issued a recall.  Anyone who has the pills can return them to the store where they were purchased for a refund, according to their website.

The Iovate heath website is at http://www.iovate.com/.  An official statement on Hydroxycut is at http://www.hydroxycutinformation.com/.
