Promoter Ed Hsu has agreed to join forces with mixed martial arts promoter/manager Monte Cox to help bring Extreme Challenge events to the East Coast. Hsu, formerly head of the Combat in the Cage events, will promote approximately 20 events a year and will be starting a small management team of 25 fighters. Last year, promoter Chad Bergmeier teamed up with Cox and promoted 15 events around the Midwest and also built a management team of 30 fighters. Cox is probably the sport’s most established manager, representing nearly 50 fighters, including stars Matt Hughes, Tim Sylvia, Rich Franklin, Sean Sherk, Jens Pulver, Jeremy Horn and many more. Cox also promoted or co-promoted 40 events last year. ‘The Extreme Challenge is one of the nation’s longest-running events, having started back in 1995,’ Cox said. ‘The show has produced many of the sport’s most recognizable stars and our goal is to continue to discover and develop talent. With the additions of Hsu and Bergmeier, I’m confident we can keep things going in the right direction as the sport continues to gain in popularity.’ Hsu’s first Extreme Challenge event will be at the Sovereign Bank Arena in Trenton, N.J. on March 23.
