Some big upsets and some great matches were the story ofSaturday at the Worlds 2012. Perhaps the biggest upset of the day was RodolfoVieira’s loss to Marcus “Buchecha” in the Absolute. Vieira thecurrent defending champion and 2 times Absolute winner was ahead on points when”Buchecha” pulled all the stops and scored a HUGE come frombehind win over the current Champion. The stadium was rocking during this matchwas instantly deemed one of the top 10 ever matches in Jiu-Jitsu history. AsRoyler Gracie put it: “Buchecha” is very dangerous, fast and verytechnical. It is hard to find that combination!”
Other upsets included Kyra Gracie losing to Beatriz and Luana Alzuguir’s lossin the ladies Absolute. The level of the fights and the go for it attitude thathas now seemingly taken over the competitors. Let’s hope this stays on fortomorrow!
Notwithstanding the Kyra upset noted above, the ladies division had most of thefavorites advancing with Leticia Ribeiro, Bia Mesquita, Michelle Nicolini, GabiGarcia all advancing to the finals
