The New Jersey State Athletic Control Board announced their medical suspensions for UFC 78: Validation that took place this last Saturday from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ. After defeating Tamdan McCrory by armbar in his American and UFC debut, Akihiro Gono was placed on indefinite suspension until he gains medical clearance of his right wrist. The only other suspension came in the Ed Herman versus Joe Doerksen bout. After being knocked out in the third round, Doerksen was suspended for the next 60 days and will need a CT head scan and clearance of his left orbital bone. Surprisingly, there were no suspensions handed down in the Thiago Alves and Chris Lytle bout. This welterweight war was stopped at the end of the second round by the doctor’s advice after Lytle suffered two cuts – one above his eye and the other on his eye lid.
