Kid caught up with “Shaolin” Ribeiro, right after his submission win over a tough and game Kazuyuki Miyata at the opening round of the K1 Hero’s lightweight Grand Prix in Tokyo, Japan on July 16, 2007:

KP- What did you think about the fight?
VR- “I am very happy with my win. It was a tough fight but the taste of victory is always sweet. In the first round he surprised me with his high kicks but then going into the second round, we adjusted our game and got the submission in the second! I am very happy and looking forward to the next round. I’ll be even more prepared then.”
KP- Shaolin you have another win by submission (5 in a row and a 19 –1 record), again you won with the head and arm choke.
VR- I believe it is the 8th time I submit an opponent with that. It is one of my strong weapons, but I have more in store! I want to thank my teammates and my fans for their support! I am now going to Europe where I’ll conduct a series of seminars and then go back home, rest a little and then start training for the next round!
