GCM Communications Presents ‘D.O.G(DEMOLITION of Octagon Gear) VII’Saturaday, September 9th, 2006At Differ Ariake, Tokyo, JapanLive Gate: N/Aphoto by Yoshinori Ihara (www.boutreview.com) // PIC: Monma couldn’t react well to Fioravanti’s barrage of punches.Hidetaka Monma, on this day, seemed very frustrated. Even at the post-fight interview he was jiggling his knees nervously, and the fist word out of his mouth was, ‘Honestly I feel very frustrated.’Probably its because he just lost his third fight in a row. Rodrigo Gracie in February, J.Z. Calvan in May, and this time, against a much heavier over the weight limit Luigi Fioravanti from ATT Orlando. Monma himself was in denial by saying, ‘If I didn’t want it then I wouldn’t have ccepted the fight’ but he should be feeling very frustrated with the fact that Fioravanti was 6 kilos (13.22 lbs) over at the weigh-in, and 3.7 kilos 8.12 lbs) over on the day of the fight.Right before the fight, the announcer explained Fioravanti’s problem of being over weight to the fans. Fioravanti showed up 13 lbs over, tried to lose it but he was still 8 lbs over on the day of the fight. Monma had a right to say no but in a country like Japan, saying no in this type of circumstance would be considered as more of a ‘chicken’s decision’ instead of practical or rational.Monma, right from the bell, looked like he was in a hurry. He came out swinging, took Fioravanti down and quickly got the side-mount. The heavier Fioravanti, however, escaped and stood right back up. Back on their feet, Monma still looked like he was rushing, engaging in a punching battle but Fioravanti nailed a clean left hook to the chin, and Monma went down to the canvass. Fioravanti chased him with punches, Monma reacted, tried an armbar but the series of pounding shots finally took him outside of consciousness.’When I threw my left hook, I believe that’s when I got nailed, right? I was looking for a left hook. When I became conscious, I was getting punched, then the next I know, a referee stopped the fight. I remember going for an armbar from the bottom though.’The question still remains, how did Fioravanti ended up 13 lbs over the contract weight? D.O.G. never gave any solid explanations to fans or the media. Was Fioravanti informed of the wrong contract weight? Most of the database available in the States list Monma as a middleweight instead of in his new weight class, welterweight. Is that why Fioravanti assumed that it was a middleweight bout instead of a welterweight bout? Or did someone make a typo on his contract? Obviously the weight is a big issue for any combat sport because too much of a difference could end up in an injury. Fioravanti’s stomach looked far from being completely toned down. In other words, he could have taken another 8 lbs off easily if he knew his contract weight. Or did he know it but didn’t care? D.O.G. should clear up this matter for the fans so Fioravanti doesn’t end up being labeled as completely unprofessional and irresponsible. After the fight, Monma was asked about the opponent’s weight but his reply was, ‘It doesn’t matter. There are fans out there who were looking forward to seeing my fight, and I myself was looking forward to it. This might happen in the future, so I am glad I got to experience it. I became mentally stronger.’Complete Results:8th Match – 78 kg & Under BoutHidetaka Monma (Japan / Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai A-3) vs. Luigi Fioravanti (U.S.A. / ATT Orlando)Winner: 1R 2’31’ Luigi Fioravanti by TKO (strikes) *Fioravante weighed in 6 kilo over.7th Match – 70 kg & Under BoutEiji Mitsuoka (Japan / Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai RJW) vs. Paul Rodriguez (U.S.A. / ATT Orlando)Winner: 2R 0’40’ Eiji Mitsuoka by Sumission (guillotine choke) *Rodriguez weighed in 2 kilo over.6th Match – 76 kg & Under Bout 5 min / 2RK-taro Nakamura (Japan / Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai Tokyo Headquarters) vs. Salmanov Jalil (Russia / SK Absolute Russia)Winner: 1R 3’50’ K-taro Nakamura by Submission (rear naked choke)5th Match – 70 kg & Under Bout 5 min / 2RTomonari Kanomata (Japan / Paraestra Hachiouji) vs. Yasuyoshi Kinbara (Japan / Team Crowd)Winner: 2R Tomonari Kanomata by Decision (3-0)4th Match – 70 kg & Under 5 min / 2RWataru Miki (Japan / Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai RJW) vs. Koji Yoshida (Japan / Freelance)Winner: 2R Draw3rd Match – 72 kg & Under Bout 5 min / 2RTakahito Iida (Japan / Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai) vs. Oumakhanov Arthur (Russia / SK Absolute Russia)Winner: 1R 5’00’ Oumakhanov Arthur by TKO (strikes)2nd Match – 79 kg & Under Bout 5 min / 2RYoshiyuki Yoshida (Japan / Tokyo Yellowmans) vs. Hossein Ojaghi (Iran / Otoko-gumi)Winner: 2R 3’36’ Yoshiyuki Yoshida by Submission (armbar)1st Match – 70 kg & Under Bout 5 min / 2RKiichi Hirayama (Japan / Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai RJW) vs. Wataru Takahashi(Japan / Freelance)Winner: 1R 4’37’ Wataru Takahashi by Submission (armbar)
