UNITED GRACIE TOURNAMENT OFFICIALLY SETS A NEW PARTICIPANT RECORD AS IT BREAKS THE 500 COMPETITOR MARK! from the promoterThe United Gracie Tournament organizers Charles and Ralph Gracie announced today that registration has now been closed for this event and their upcoming tournament has set a new official record for registered competitors. The tournament which will be held this coming Saturday, May 6th at Historic Kezar Pavilion in San Francisco, has passed its prior record for registered competitors with an increase of over 20% surpassing the previous record of over 400 set last year. This kind of increase speaks to the exploding growth in interest and participation in the sport developed by the Gracie Family for the last 85 years. It also speaks to the future in terms of the quality of competition that has improved, and can only get better with this kind of explosion of interest. Other Nor Cal tournaments last year had approximately 300 participants. By surpassing the 500 mark, it puts the United Gracie tournament on the same level as other elite grappling tournaments Nationwide. This year there are more academies, than ever before, entering their students as well as independent unaffiliated competitors. More top level Black Belts will be competing for a significant purse in this United Gracie Tournament than in almost any other BJJ tournament in the United states. ‘We want to thank everyone for being part of this and it pleases us tremendously that all our work and effort in making this event special has helped to make it truly an event that everyone will want to return to year after year’ said tournament organizer Ralph Gracie. ‘The athletes entering our tournament now should be proud to be part of what is turning out to be an historic phase of growth in the History of Brazilian Jiu Jitsu in the United States, one in which it went beyond an obscure sport pursued only by a few to become a widespread sport enjoyed by many’ added tournament co-organizer Charles Gracie. Thank you all in advance for your cooperation and support. We couldn’t have done it without all of you. We also want to extend a special thank you to our United Gracie Crew, especially to Rob & Cathy Henderson, as well as Alan Hanson. We couldn?t have done it without you guys!
