Yushin Okami returns to UFC against OSP in Saitama

OSP vs Okami

Mauricio “Shogun” Rua (25-10) will not have the chance to redeem himself against Ovince Saint Preux (20-10) at UFC Fight Night 117 after all. “Shogun” was forced to withdraw from the Sept. 23 date in Saitama, Japan due to a knee injury and is being replaced by former UFC middleweight title contender Yushin Okami (34-10).

UFC officials announced the news during the UFC Pittsburgh broadcast on FS1 Saturday night.

Okami hasn’t fought in the UFC since Sept. 2013 when Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza stopped him in the first round via TKO. Following that Okami signed on with World Series of Fighting and went 1-2 including an unsuccessful title bid at 185-pounds.

After back-to-back losses to David Branch and Jon Fitch, Okami picked up a pair of wins on the Japanese circuit last year before returning to WSOF for a split decision win over Paul Bradley last December. Okami last fought in July when he won a unanimous decision over Andre Lobato at PFL 2.

Saint Preux snapped a three-fight skid in April when he submitted Marcos Rogerio de Lima with a rarely seen Von Flue choke. The 34-year-old former University of Tennessee linebacker has now finished five of his 20 career victories via submission and 10 via knockout.
