When UFC Fight Night 40 hits Cincinnati in May, bantamweight veterans Eddie Wineland and Johnny Eduardo will square off. UFC officials confirmed the addition to the card on Wednesday.
Wineland (21-9-1) is 3-3 since making the move to the UFC from the WEC in 2011. The 29-year-old former WEC bantamweight champ is coming off a second round TKO win over Yves Jabouin back in January. Just prior to that he’d challenged Renan Barao for the Interim Bantamweight Title, suffering a second round TKO loss himself.
Eduardo (26-9) hasn’t stepped inside the UFC cage since May 2012 when he won a unanimous decision over Jeff Curran. The 35-year-old Brazilian had a couple of bouts scheduled but was forced to withdraw due to injury. Eduardo made his UFC debut in August 2011, dropping a unanimous decision to Raphael Assuncao. The loss broke an 11-fight win streak. Eduardo is now 1-1 inside the Octagon.
UFC Fight Night 40 is scheduled for May 10 at U.S. Bank Arena in Cincinnati, Ohio. The card will air live on FOX Sports 1 and as of now includes the following matches:
- Johnny Eduardo vs. Eddie Wineland
