The UFC has officially announced a welterweight fight between Warlley Alves and Sultan Aliev. The bout will be part of UFC 224, which takes place May 12 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Last October, Alves return from a nearly year-long layoff and picked up a decision victory. At UFC Fight Night 118, he best Salim Touahri. The win improved his professional record to 10-2. After winning the season of “The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil,” Alves made his UFC debut in 2014. He won his first four bouts in the promotion, including a first-round submission over Colby Covington. However, he then dropped a pair of bouts against Bryan Barberena and Kamaru Usman before getting back on track in his last fight.
Aliev signed with the UFC in 2015, but to this point, he has only fought for the promotion twice. In his UFC debut at UFC on FOX 14, he fell via first-round knockout against Kenny Robertson. Aliev returned at UFC on FOX 22 and defeated Bojan Velickovic via decision. The Russian fighter also went 1-1 for Bellator in 2013.
In the main event of UFC 224, UFC women’s bantamweight champion Amanda Nunes will put her title on the line against Raquel Pennington. In the co-main event, former champions Lyoto Machida and Vitor Belfort will meet in a middleweight bout.
