Travis Browne vs. Oleksiy Oliynyk to clash at UFC 213

Browne vs Oliynyk

A heavyweight matchup between No. 9 ranked Travis Browne (18-6-1) and No. 11 ranked Oleksiy Oliynyk (51-10-1) is being targeted for UFC 213. Sources close to the situation have confirmed the booking.

UFC 213 will be held July 8 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The event will also include a bantamweight championship match as Cody Garbrandt puts his belt on the line against former titleholder and teammate TJ Dillashaw.

Browne is looking to bounce back from a three-fight skid, most recently suffering a KO loss to Derrick Lewis at UFC Fight Night 105 in February. Prior to that “Hapa” had dropped a decision to Fabricio Werdum at UFC 203 last September and a TKO to Cain Velasquez at UFC 200 last Summer. A January 2016 TKO over Matt Mitrione was Browne’s most recent victory inside the octagon. The 34-year-old Hawaiian has finished 14 of his 18 wins by knockout including notable stoppages of Brendan Shcaub, Josh Barnett, Alistair Overeem and Gabriel Gonzaga.

Oliynyk bounced back from a decision loss to Daniel Omielanczuk last Summer with a first-round submission win over Viktor Pesta at UFC Fight Night 103 in January. Remarkably, it was the 39-year-old Russian’s forty-second career victory via submission. Nicknamed “The Boa Constrictor”, Oliynyk also holds UFC wins over Jared Rosholt and Anthony Hamilton. Prior to signing with the UFC in 2014, Oliynyk dominated on the European circuit for many years and has made such legends as Mirko Filipovic and Jeff Monson tapout in the past.

Other bouts so far announced for the UFC 213 card include a heavyweight bout between Fabricio Werdum and Alistair Overeem, as well as a welterweight showdown between Robbie Lawler and Donald Cerrone. Stay tuned to for more additions to the UFC 213 card.
