A heavyweight matchup between Todd Duffee (9-3) and Mark Godbeer (11-3) has been added to March’s UFC 209 card. The news was announced this week by the promotion.
UFC 209 will be held from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas on March 4. No main event has been officially announced at this time though a heavyweight bout between Alistair Overeem and Mark Hunt is also expected to take place on the card.
Duffee hasn’t fought since getting KO’d by former champion Frank Mir in the UFC Fight Night 71 main event in July 2015. The loss snapped a three-fight winning streak that included first-round knockouts of Neil Grove, Philip De Fries and a 33-second stoppage of Anthony Hamilton. All nine off Duffee’s wins have been by knockout. The 31-year-old Indiana native appeared in the 2011 film Never Back Down 2: The Beatdown with martial arts star Michael Jai White.
Godbeer is also a knockout artist with 10 of his 11 wins coming via his heavy hands. The 33-year-old Brit made his Octagon debut this past November dropping a submission to Justin Ledet at UFC Fight Night 99. Prior to signing with the UFC, Godbeer was on a three-fight run and successfully defended his BAMMA heavyweight title with a first round knockout of Stuart Austin in May 2016.
With this addition, UFC 209 now includes:
- Mark Hunt vs. Alistair Overeem
- Mirsad Bektic vs. Darren Elkins
- Todd Duffee vs. Mark Godbeer
- David Teymur vs. Lando Vannata
- Iuri Alcantara vs. Luke Sanders
