The theme of Global Proving Grounds 20 is “Fighting for Wounded Soldiers” but the big news is Sean “Shorty Rock” Santella makes his return this night as he takes on Corey Simmons. GPG 20 takes place May 2nd at the GPG Event Center in Pennsauken, NJ with a pay-per-view webcast through GoFightLive available May 3rd.
Santella is 13-5 overall but at flyweight is 5-2. His is a dramatic story as he started out at this weight class going 5-0 and taking the CFFC title. After eleven months off due to knee surgery Santella returned only to lose the belt to Nick Honstein by unanimous decision at CFFC 34 in April of last year. Off for another ten months Santella fought Jimmy Grant at PA Cage Fight only to lose by split decision at PACF 20 in February. Simmons himself had thirteen months off between his TKO loss to Andre Soukhamthath in December 2013 and a unanimous decision loss to Matt Rizzo at ROC 50 in January. Now 5-7 on a three-fight losing streak Simmons will be a test for Santella the submission ace should pass.
Also on the card Matt Church takes on Oliver Vadnai. Church was 5-0 as an amateur but took a loss to Emmanuel Sanchez for his pro debut in November 2011. Church hasn’t fought pro MMA since. Vadnai hasn’t fought pro MMA since Score Fighting Series in November 2012 where he lost a unanimous decision to Paul Jalbert leaving his record 1-1.
