Arguably the North East’s best flyweight returns to the cage this weekend as Sean Santella faces Jimmy Grant for the Pennsylvania Cage Fight title. Also on the card James Jordan takes on Shelby Graham for the lightweight title while three amateur belts are on the line. PACF 20 takes place February 28th at the Woods Inn and Resort in Wilks Barre, PA.
13-4-1 Santella is a well-known name to fans in the region through his time as CFFC champion at flyweight and ROC champion at bantamweight. Since dropping to flyweight “Shorty Rock” defeated Bryan Lashomb for the CFFC title and defended it four times before losing the belt to Nick Honstein by unanimous decision last April. Santella is a submission wizard with nine of his wins coming by submission with an especially dangerous arsenal of leg submissions while four victories have come by decision. Santella’s striking has been improving but hasn’t really been showcased as his only fight since May 2013 was the loss to Honstein last April. 5-3 Grant has had two fights since Santella has been off, a KO win over and submission loss to Matt Rizzo both in ROC. In the first Rizzo fight Grant caught his opponent with a first-round KO while in the second Rizzo quickly took Grant down and applied a rear-naked choke before Grant really got going. This bout looks like it could be along the same lines as Grant has the punchers chance but Santella if he gets Grant down should see victory quickly, the question being if Santella can’t get Grant down how much has his standup improved.
Though the main event fighters aren’t as well-known as Santella the battle for the lightweight title should be equally as entertaining. James Jordan enters the cage undefeated at 3-0 coming off a TKO win over Greg Quarantello in CFFC in December. 5-8 Shelby Graham had a busy but rough 2014 fighting six times last year but going 2-4 with losses in his last three fights.
Also on the pro portion of the card Jordan Morales puts his undefeated record on the line against the more experienced Jordan Espinoza. 3-0 Morales was last seen in August defeating Chaz Holloway by unanimous decision, the downside to this up-and-comer being he has only been fighting professionally since July 2013 and is still largely untested. 6-4 Espinosa looks like that good test. Espinosa’s “breakout” fight was his win over Rafael de Freitas in LFC 36 in October, his second decision in a record that is completed by four submissions.
