Sanders vs. Caraway booked for UFC Fresno

Luke Sanders (11-1) will have a chance to break into the bantamweight division’s top 10 when he faces No. 7 ranked Bryan Caraway (21-7) at UFC Fight Night 123. The bout was announced on Tuesday by ESPN.

UFC Fight Night 123 will be held Dec. 9 from Save Mart Center in Fresno, Calif. A featherweight showdown between Cub Swanson and Brian Ortega is expected to headline the card.

Sanders was on an impressive 11-fight unbeaten streak before being submitted by Iuri Alcantara at UFC 209 in March. Prior to that the 31-year-old Nashville native won “Performance of the Night” honors in his UFC debut for a first-round submission win over Maximo Blanco in Jan. 2016.

Sanders is a former RFA bantamweight champion and splits his training between The MMA Lab in Glendale, Ariz. and Nashville MMA in Tennessee. Six of his his career wins have been by knockout and two by submission.

Caraway has been on the sidelines for some time now but is currently riding back-to-back wins. He most recently earned a split decision over Aljamain Sterling at UFC Fight Night 88 in May 2016. Before that he earned a unanimous decision over Eddie Wineland in July 2015.

Caraway is 5-2 inside the octagon since making his bantamweight debut at UFC 149 in 2012. Known as one of the top grapplers in the UFC, the 33-year-old Washington native has finished 17 of his 21 career wins via submission.
