South Korean promotion Road Fighting Championship has signed UFC veteran Zhang Lipeng for their Chinese debut. The event, Road FC 27, takes place Dec. 26 at the Shanghai Oriental Sports Center in Shanghai. Details of his debut opponent have not been released.
Lipeng reached the finals of “The Ultimate Fighter: China” on the back of two wins on the reality show. On the Finale, he took home the season lightweight trophy with a split-decision victory over Wang Sai. He then won his next fight over Brendan O’Reilly. However, his UFC run then came to an end with back-to-back losses to Chris Wade and Kajan Johnson.
Since leaving the UFC, Lipeng reportedly got back on track with a win over Makoto Maeda at Kunlun Fight: Cage Fight Series 4. The bout was not recorded by fight tracking websites Sherdog.com or MixedMartialArts.com, but the news was reported by BloodyElbow.com.
The event marks the second time Road FC has left its home country. The promotion, which has hosted 25 events in South Korea, held Road FC 24 in Tokyo last July.
