PANCRASE 270 – 10/04/2015: Schneider Is Confirmed To Fight But Facing The Same Problem

Colleen Schneider is 33-year old. 7-6 in pro MMA, and also she is a third degree in Tae Kwan DoColleen Schneider was supposed to fight in May 31st but Pancrase couldn't find an opponent. She had to sit and wait for the next opportunity.

On Wednesday, Pancrase, once again, without having a confirmed opponent, officially announced
Schneider will be fighting in Pancrase 270..

This probably means Pancrase is still trying to solve the same problem. Finding a suitable opponent for Schneider at 125 lbs in Japan. She is 7-6. Coming off from a three-round decision win over Jingnan Xiong in China but 2-2 in her last four fights. On paper, she doesn't look like someone many fighters are avoiding to face because that is not the problem in this case.

In today's Japanese MMA, there isn't much female pro MMA fighters to begin with, and on top of this, most pro fighters are fighting in either atom or strawweight. In terms of flyweight, if you set the bar to "more than 10 pro fights" then practically only two possibilities. Takayo Hashi and Shizuka Sugiyama. However, Hashi is scheduled to defend her DEEP JEWELS bantamweight title on August 29th and she is still under the Invicta FC contract (she fights at 125 there) so she is a slim possibility. Sugiyama actually never fought at 125 lbs. She probably can hit 125 but ti doesn't mean she is willing to go down.

That's the reason why Pancrase probably would have to look into Korea or Southeast Asia and even North America to locate Schneider's opponent.

By the way, the only reason Pancrase is trying so hard to create a fight for Schneider is because she is Josh Barnett's team mate. Pancrase has been booking his students and / or team mates recently such as Victor Henry and Shohei Yamamoto. Clearly, Pancrase and Barnett are in a good term.

However, Schneider herself won't be a driving force at the box office in Japan. Meaning, Pancrase will be losing money on her fight, so finding an opponent for her is really about depends on how far Pancrase is willing to spend.
