PANCRASE 264 – 02/01/2015: Phan Wins King Of Pancrase Title – Full Results

Nam Phan (right) landed this right hook more than few times in this fight and that made a difference in judges' score cardsAt the signing ceremony held two days before the fight, TAKUMI said, "If I take a hit then I won't be able to use full strength in grappling, so I have to be cautious about not getting hit with hard shot."

However, TAKUMI really couldn't avoid Nam Phan's hard shots. Particularly a right hook.

In the first round, TAKUMI was knocked down by Phan's right hook. The King of Pancrase landed many low kicks early in the fight but this knock down definitely left a bad impression on judges.
Will "The Kill" Chope (left) finished Satoshi Inaba with a rear naked choke and asked for a fight against "the winner of TAKUMI and Nam Phan"
TAKUMI changed his strategy in the second round. A 41-year veteran from team Paraestra Osaka took Phan down then quickly got on the back. However, Phan calmly defended, and eventually escaped. Back in standing, Phan started to land right hooks again and TAKUMI visibly slowed down.

In the final round, Phan wobbled TAKUMI with a right hook, then followed with a right high kick. TAKUMI shot in tried to bring the fight to the ground but Phan knew he was out of gas. Phan calmly stepped back, clinch and pushed TAKUMI to the cage.
Guy Delumeau (top) was just too powerful for Akitoshi Tamura
For some reason, one judge scored 29-28 for TAKUMI but two others gave to Phan, and Phan became the new King of Pancrase at 145 lbs division.

After the fight, Phan thanked the fan and his team mates at the team Paraestra Hachiouji in Japanese. On the other end TAKUMI told the reporter, "Knee shots and punches was heavier than I expected" and in regards to his future, the former champ said, "I can't think about anything right now."
