The opponent of Olympic silver medalist Hiroshi Izumi’s pro MMA debut is going to be a kick boxer named Antz “Notorious” Nansen from New Zealand.
According to WVR (World Victory Road), Nansen currently holds three titles, IMF New Zealand heavyweight, WKBF cruiser and heavyweight titles. His pro kickboxing record is 14 wins 1 loss and 1 draw. He is 26 years old and has no prior experience in pro MMA bout so just like Izumi, this is going to he his pro MMA debut.
Izumi told reporters at the press conference, “I want to go with striking, that is my style. I have been training (striking) every day and its coming into form. Because in MMA there is striking before going to the ground so I want to be able to build my game plan with striking but it doesn’t mean I am not going to the ground though.” It doesn’t sounds too wise to strike against a striker in his very first MMA bout but, “I don’t think about quitting just because its dangerous. I think my samurai spirit inside of me will prevail.”
Izumi has been training under the guidance of UFC and PRIDE vet Yoji Anjo but he is also planning to train at Yoshida Dojo and Wajiu-tsu Keishu-kai.
In addition two more cards were announced on this date. Makoto Takimoto will take on Jae Sun Lee from Korea and Antonio Silva will take on “Big” Jim York in the heavyweight bout.
