Wrestling and strength were the keys to victory for Nad Narimani as he took the Cage Warriors Fighting Championships featherweight title from Paddy Pimblett in an upset unanimous decision. CWFC 82 took place April 1st at the Echo Arena in Liverpool, England with a webcast at UFC Fight Pass.
The few punches Nad Narimani landed on the defending champion Paddy Pimblett were more powerful but his strategy seemed to be more about controlling the distance, preventing Pimblett from utilizing his reach advantage and kicks. When Pimblett turned to takedowns Narimani sprawled and landed heavy punches to continue the scoring. In the end the judges scored the fight for Narimani by unanimous decision improving his record to 10-2 with three wins in a row. The highly touted Pimblett will surely be back as his record is still 13-2 at 22 years old with this fight snapping his nine-fight win streak.
In the co-main event Bellator vet Nathaniel Wood defeated UFC vet Vaughan Lee. Lee was aggressive and effective in round 1 but Wood turned the tables in round 2. After dropping Lee early in the round Wood continued pushing the action for the rest of the round until an elbow and punches drove Lee towards the cage then knocked him down for the TKO. Wood now stands 10-3 with this and his win over Chase Morton in Bellator comprising his two wins in the past twelve months. Lee may be a UFC vet but his 14-13 record now holds four losses in a row.
