A women’s strawweight matchup between Australia’s Nadia Kassem (5-0) and China’s Xiaonan Yan (8-1, 1 NC) is being targeted for UFC Fight Night 132. News of the booking was recently announced.
UFC Fight Night 132 will take place June 23 in Singapore. An exact venue and main event for the card is still to be determined.
Kassem remains unbeaten in her pro career and had a successful octagon debut when she earned a unanimous decision over Alex Chambers at UFC Fight Night 121 last November. However, she did miss weight for the 115-pound matchup and had to forfeit 30% of her purse to Chambers.
Prior to signing with the UFC, Kassem had been competing on the Australian regional circuit where she won the JNI Promotions Flyweight Championship and the Urban Fight Night Strawweight Championship. The 22-year-old Aussie has finished four of her five career victories via knockout.
Yan is riding a six-fight winning streak, most recently earning a unanimous decision over Kailin Curran in her octagon debut at UFC Fight Night 122 last November. Prior to that “Fury” had been competing on the Chinese regional circuit and collected several belts on her road to the octagon.
Yan is a former Sanda fighter and holds a Bachelor’s Degree from Xian Sports Academy. Five of her eight career victories have been by knockout and three by decision.
