McMann vs. Reneau

Top 10 ranked women’s bantamweights Marion Reneau (8-3-1) and Sara McMann (11-4) will face-off at UFC on Fox 28 next month. News of the matchup was announced by the fighters on Wednesday.

UFC on Fox 28 will take place Feb. 24 from Amway Center in Orlando, Fla. Jimmie Rivera will meet fellow top bantamweight contender Marlon Moraes in the main event.

Reneau is currently ranked No. 10 in the women’s 135-pound division and is coming off a TKO win over Talita Bernardo at UFC Fight Night 115 in September. And in March of last year she fought to a draw against former title challenger Bethe Correia in Brazil.

The 40-year-old BJJ black belt under Tom Knox is now 4-2-1 inside the octagon and has also posted wins over Milana Dudieva, Jessica Andrade and Alexis Dufresne. “The Belizean Bruiser” has finished five of her eight career wins by knockout and two by submission.

McMann had a three-fight winning streak snapped by Ketlen Vieira via submission at UFC 215 in September. Prior to that the 37-year-old Maryland native scored submission wins over Gina Mazany and Alexis Davis, as well as a unanimous decision over Jessica Eye. She is presently ranked No. 8 in the division.

McMann won a silver medal in women’s freestyle wrestling at the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens. In just her second UFC fight in Feb. 2014 she fought Ronda Rousey for the women’s bantamweight title but was stopped in the first round.
