“UFC Tonight” has announced a women’s bantamweight contest for UFC 191. Liz Carmouche will take on Raquel Pennington at the event, which takes place Sept. 5 at the MGM Grand Garden Arena in Las Vegas.
Carmouche signed with the UFC in 2013. In her debut, she faced Ronda Rousey for the freshly minted bantamweight title. She caught the champion’s back early but ultimately fell via submission late in the first round. Since then, Carmouche has gone 2-2 with victories coming over Jessica Andrade and Lauren Murphy.
Pennington is looking to get back on the winning track after dropping a decision to Holly Holm last February. “Rocky” joined the UFC after competing on the 18th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” On the show, she defeated Tonya Evinger and Jessamyn Duke before falling in the semifinals to Jessica Rakoczy. Over the course of her career, Pennington has also defeated Ashlee Evans-Smith, Roxanne Modafferi, Raquel Pa’aluhi, Sarah Moras and Kim Couture.
In the main event of UFC 191, flyweight champion Demetrious Johnson will take on John Dodson. Also on the card, former heavyweight champions Andrei Arlovski and Frank Mir will both look to continue a late-career resurgence.
