Lima vs. Okami booked for UFC on Fox 29

Lima vs Okami

A welterweight matchup between Dhiego Lima (12-6) and Yushin Okami (34-11) has been added to the UFC on Fox 29 card taking place in April. UFC officials recently announced the booking.

UFC on Fox 29 will take place April 14 from Gila River Arena in Glendale, Ariz. A bout between top lightweight contenders Dustin Poirier and Justin Gaethje is expected to headline the card.

Lima is currently on his second stint in the UFC and is coming off a submission loss to Jesse Taylor in his octagon return at the TUF 25 welterweight tournament finals last July. Prior to that, Lima had been competing under the Titan FC banner where he won the welterweight championship in June 2016.

In his first UFC stint Lima had competed in The Ultimate Fighter 19 middleweight tournament but was stopped in the finals by Eddie Gordon in July 2014. He went on to go 1-3 in the promotion before his release in 2015. Lima’s lone UFC win was a unanimous decision over Jorge de Oliveira at welterweight in Nov. 2014.

Okami is also on his second stint in the UFC and is coming off a submission loss to Ovince Saint Preux at light heavyweight last September. Before that “Thunder” had put together a four-fight winning streak at welterweight on the regional circuit.

In his day Okami was considered one of the best UFC middleweights on the roster and even challenged Anderson Silva for the title back in Aug. 2011. He made his octagon debut in Aug. 2006 with a unanimous decision over Alan Belcher at UFC 62.
