UFC officials have confirmed that Erik Koch will move up to featherweight and take on Rafaello Oliveira. The bout will be part of UFC 170, which takes place Feb. 22 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center in Las Vegas.
Koch made his Zuffa debut in 2009. He scored a unanimous-decision victory over Jameel Massouh at WEC 45. He finished his WEC run with a 3-1 record before moving on to the UFC. He won his first two fights in the UFC over Raphael Assuncao and Jonathan Brookins. However, since then, he has dropped back-to-back fights over Ricardo Lamas and Dustin Poirier. This will be his first fight in the UFC at 155 pounds.
Oliveira went 1-2 in the UFC between 2009-2010 before being released. However, he fought his way back into the promotion with a four-fight winning streak on the independent circuit. In 2011, he resigned with the UFC. During his current run, he has gone 1-3. His lone victory during his current stint came via unanimous decision over Yoislandy Izquierdo at UFC 148.
In the main event of UFC 170, women’s bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will defend her title against Olympic medalist Sara McMann. Also on the card, former light heavyweight champion Rashad Evans will take on Olympian Daniel Cormier.
