A welterweight matchup between Warlley Alves (10-2) and Jim Wallhead (29-11) has been added to the UFC Fight Night 118 card taking place in October. UFC officials announced the bout on Thursday.
UFC Fight Night 118 will be held Oct. 21 from Ergo Arena in Gdansk, Poland. The entire event is scheduled to stream live on UFC Fight Pass. Donald Cerrone and Darren Till are expected to faceoff in the headliner.
After Alves won The Ultimate Fighter: Brazil 3 Middleweight Tournament in May 2014, he went on to win his next three fights inside the octagon against Alan Jouban, Nordine Taleb and Colby Covington. Since then though, the 26-year-old Brazilian has dropped back-to-back decisions against Bryan Barberena in May of last year and Kamaru Usman last November.
Alves trains out of X-Gym in Rio de Janeiro. “Slingshot” has finished six of his 10 career wins via submission and one by knockout. He is currently 4-2 inside the UFC octagon.
Wallhead is a rugged veteran and has held multiple British titles. “Judo” Jim was on a four-fight winning streak that included three KO victories when he made his long-awaited UFC debut in September of last year. However, Wallhead lost a close split decision in the fight against Jessin Ayari in Germany. Wallhead then returned to action in June of this year when he was submitted by Luan Chagas at UFC 212.
The 33-year-old Brit is a judo black belt and has been fighting professionally since 2005. Wallhead has finished 11 of his 29 wins by knockout and 10 by submission.
With both Wallhead and Alves having lost their last two fights, the loser of this one could receive his walking papers. Stay tuned to adcombat.com for more UFC Fight Night 118 updates and all your BJJ and MMA news.
