The UFC has announced that Jake Ellenberger will return to action against Bryan Barberena. The welterweight bout will be part of UFC Fight Night 131, which takes place June 1 at the Adirondack Bank Center in Utica, N.Y.
Ellenberger enters this fight on the back of a pair of losses. On top of that, he has picked up only one win in his last five fights. During the stretch, he defeated Matt Brown via first-round knockout at UFC 201. However, Ellenberger then dropped back-to-back fights against Jorge Masvidal and Mike Perry. The veteran first joined the UFC in 2009. During his run with the company, he has scored signature victories over Nate Marquardt, Jake Shields and Diego Sanchez.
Barberena has been fighting exclusively for the UFC since 2014. In his debut, he scored a third-round victory over Jake’s brother Joe Ellenberger. Barberena has gone 4-3 in the UFC with other wins coming over Joe Proctor, Warlley Alves and Sage Northcutt. In his last fight, he dropped a decision against Leon Edwards.
In the main event of UFC Fight Night 131, bantamweight contender Jimmie Rivera will take on former WSOF champion Marlon Moraes.
