Invicta FC sets up ‘Cyborg’ vs. Tweet

Invicta FC champion Cris "Cyborg" JustinoInvicta FC president Shannon Knapp has confirmed that featherweight champion Cris “Cyborg” Justino will defend her title against Charmaine Tweet. The bout will be part of Invicta FC 11, which takes place Feb. 27 at the Shrine Auditorium in Los Angeles.

Interestingly enough, UFC bantamweight champion Ronda Rousey will defend her title against Cat Zingano the next night also in Los Angeles. The two fighters are widely considered the two top female fighters in the sport. Last week, UFC CEO Lorenzo Fertitta confirmed that he was currently negotiating to bring “Cyborg” to the UFC.

Justino holds a 12-1 record. She has not lost since dropping her debut to Vanessa Porto in 2005. In her last fight, she scored a third-round knockout of Marloes Coenen for the inaugural Invicta FC featherweight title. In 2009, “Cyborg” bested Gina Carano for the inaugural Strikeforce featherweight title. She defended the belt twice before the promotion closed up shop.

After what would have been her third title defense and a 16-second knockout over Hiroko Yamanaka, Justino tested positive for a banned substance and was suspended by the California State Athletic Commission.

Tweet holds a 6-4 record as a professional. In her last fight, she made her Invicta FC debut with a first-round knockout of Veronica Rothenhausler. Tweet made her professional debut against Rousey and tapped to an armbar in only 49 seconds.

Invicta FC 11 will air live on UFC Fight Pass.
