Former pound-for-pound king and longest reigning middleweight champion in UFC history, Anderson Silva, will be eligible to fight again in early 2016 following a year suspension for PEDs. And ready to welcome him back in the fold is none other than currently number eight-ranked 185-pounder, Gegard Mousasi.
“The Dreamcatcher” politely tells Fox Sports 1’s UFC Tonight, “I’d like to fight as fast as possible. Anderson Silva would be a good fight for me, I believe. … That would be a good fight because I don’t have anything to lose. I don’t know if it’s a good match-up for him or a fight that he wants, but for me the reward would be huge. I like the fight.”
And when Mousasi was asked how he would beat Anderson? “Stand up. Wrestling,” he said.
It sounds like the Dutch kickboxer thinks he can take “The Spider” anywhere the fight goes. We’re not going to argue with him. He is coming off a TKO loss to Uriah Hall in September though. But prior to that he had a TKO win over Dan Henderson in January, and a unanimous decision win over Costas Philippou in May.
Everyone remembers Anderson snapping his leg in half in his rematch with Chris Weidman in Dec. 2013. Miraculously he returned to competition in about 13 months time to score a unanimous decision against Nick Diaz. The win was later overturned to a NC after Silva tested positive for performance enhancers and Diaz tested positive for marijuana.
