Gastelum vs. Belfort to headline UFC Fight Night 107 in Brazil

A middleweight bout between TUF 17 winner Kelvin Gastelum (13-2) and legend Vitor Belfort (25-13) is set to headline UFC Fight Night 107 in Brazil this coming Spring. UFC officials confirmed the booking this week.

UFC Fight Night 107 is slated for March 11 from Centro de Formacao Olimpica do Nordeste in Fortaleza. The only other bout so far announced for the card is a lightweight matchup between Edson Barboza and Beneil Dariush.

Gastelum broke into the middleweight Top 10 rankings with a third round TKO stoppage of Tim Kennedy at UFC 206 last weekend. Prior to that Gastelum scored a unanimous decision win over Johny Hendricks at welterweight at UFC 200 in July. Kelvin has had trouble in the past making the 170-pound welterweight limit and was never quite able to get himself into title contention. However, he won The Ultimate Fighter 17 middleweight tournament in 2013 by defeating Uriah Hall, and also holds a TKO win over veteran Nate Marquardt at 185-pounds.

Belfort fought Chris Weidman for the middleweight title in May of last year but was stopped via TKO in the first round. “The Phenom” rebounded in Nov. 2015 with a head kick knockout of Dan Henderson, but most recently has succumbed to TKO finishes at the hands of Ronaldo “Jacare” Souza and Gegard Mousasi in 2016. A former UFC light heavyweight champion, Belfort has finished 18 of his 25 career wins via knockout. He turns 40 in April.
