A lightweight matchup between top ranked lightweights Dustin Poirier (21-5, 1 NC) and Anthony Pettis (20-6) has been booked as the main event for UFC Fight Night 120. Pettis’ camp announced the news on Tuesday on social media.
UFC Fight Night 120 will be held Nov. 11 from Ted Constant Convocation Center in Norfolk, Va. The event is expected to broadcast live on FS1 with early prelims streaming live on Fight Pass.
Poirier is currently ranked No. 8 in the 155-pound division and is coming off a No Contest against Eddie Alvarez at UFC 211 in May when he suffered illegal knees to the head that resulted in him being unable to continue. Prior to that Poirier had won a majority decision over Jim Miller and earned “Fight of the Night” honors at UFC 208 in February.
The 28-year-old Louisiana native has also scored recent wins over the likes of Carlos Diego Ferreira, Yancy Medeiros, Joe Duffy and Bobby Green since returning to the lightweight division in April 2015. Poirier is a BJJ brown belt and has finished six of his 21 wins by submission and 10 by knockout.
Pettis is presently ranked No. 13 at lightweight and is coming off a unanimous decision over Jim Miller at UFC 213 last month. The bout marked a return to 155-pounds for Pettis after missing weight and getting knocked out by Max Holloway for what was supposed to be an interim featherweight title fight at UFC 206 in December.
The 30-year-old former lightweight champion lost the title via decision to Rafael dos Anjos at UFC 185 in March 2015. He then dropped decisions to Eddie Alvarez and Edson Barboza before trying his hand at featherweight. Pettis’ last win at 155-pounds was a successful title defense via submission against Gilbert Melendez in Dec. 2014.
