Dodson vs. Wineland to clash at UFC Nashville

Dodson vs Wineland

A bantamweight showdown between John Dodson (18-8) and Eddie Wineland (23-11-1) has been added to April’s UFC Fight Night 108 card. The promotion announced the booking on Tuesday.

UFC Fight Night 108 will be held April 22 from Bridgestone Arena in Nashville, Tenn. A matchup between top welterweight contenders Demian Maia and Jorge Masvidal is expected to headline the card.

Dodson won the TUF 14 bantamweight tournament in 2011, but moved to the flyweight division following the Finale. After earning two shots at the 125-pound title against champion Demetrious Johnson and coming up short both times, Dodson made a successful return to 135-pounds against Manvel Gamburyan last April. “The Magician” stopped Gamburyan via TKO in just 37-seconds. Dodson then fought an overweight John Lineker at UFC Fight Night 96 this past October but lost a close split decision. He is currently ranked No. 9 in the division.

Wineland is coming off a pair of TKO wins in 2016. In July of last year he earned “Performance of the Night” for his third-round stoppage of Frankie Saenz at UFC on Fox 20. And in December Wineland stopped Takeya Mizugaki in the first round at UFC on Fox 22. The inaugural WEC bantamweight champ is currently 5-5 in his UFC tenure and also holds wins over Scott Jorgensen, Brad Pickett and Yves Jabouin. Wineland fought Renan Barao for the interim UFC bantamweight title in 2013 but was stopped in the second round. Now ranked No. 11 in the division, Wineland is looking to get back into title contention.
