Multiple media sites have confirmed that the UFC has added a featherweight contest between Dennis Bermudez and Maximo Blanco to UFC Fight Night 81. The event takes place Jan. 17 at the TD Garden in Boston.
Bermudez reached the finals of the 14th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” He fell in the finale to Deigo Brandao. After that defeat, he rattled off seven-straight wins inside the Octagon. However, last November, Ricardo Lamas stopped his streak with a first-round guillotine choke victory. Bermudez returned and fell once again, this time via knockout against Jeremy Stephens.
Blanco joined the UFC after the Strikeforce merger. He began his run with a 1-3 mark that appeared to put his UFC career in jeopardy. However, he has bounced back with three-straight victories over Andy Ogle, Dan Hooker and Mike De La Torre. The Venezuelan wrestler began his career in Japan where he fought for Sengoku and held the lightweight King of Pancrase title.
In the main event of UFC Fight Night 81, bantamweight champion T.J. Dillashaw will look to defend his title against former champion Dominick Cruz. Cruz never lost the belt, but he was stripped after an extensive absence due to injury. He has fought only once since 2011.
