DEEP JEWELS 15 – 02/25/2017: 39-Year Old Kurobe Captures Strawweight Title! – Full Results

Mina Kurobe made a pro MMA debut at age 32.

She won first five fights finishing 3 opponents via rear naked choke.

For her sixth pro fights, she faced one of DEEP JEWELS’ top strawweights Mei “V.V.” Yamaguchi and tasted first defeat in her pro career.

In the same year, she also fought Naho “Sugi Rock” Sugiyama and lost via unanimous decision.

But since then, Kurobe has been very impressive. Last year, she won all four fights including  a solid win over Emi Tomimatsu.

And this past weekend, she defeated Sugiyama and captured DEEP JEWELS strawweight title.

This was a close fight though.

With one take down and superior striking, Sugiyama was winning in the first round. Even in the second round Sugiayam did not allow Kurobe to take the fight to the ground.

But the third round was all Kurobe.

Kurobe scored takedown, then got on the back-mount position and just landed series of punches to Sugiyama’s head till end of the fight.

It was bit surprising that all three judges gave all three rounds to Kurobe but overall, it was more than obvious that a 39-year old from team Master Japan was just a better fighter on that day.

After winning the belt, Kurobe said, “All these fighters that won DEEP JEWELS belt are fighting in ONE or Invicta FC so I would like to fight in the world stage as well.”
