DEEP 81 – 12/23/2017: Uesako to Defend Featherweight Title against Ashida

Hiroto Uesako

In the upcoming Deep 81, the champion Hiroto Uesako will take on Takahiro Ashida in the promotion’s featherweight title bout.

This title was vacated by the former champion Masakazu Imanari earlier this year, and in July, Uesako won the belt with a KO win over Koji Ishizuka in the championship fight.

And Uesako just scored a first-round KO win over Shigetoshi Iwase in a non-title fight so this first title defense is going to be Uesako’s fourth fight this year.

The challenger, Ashida, made a pro debut in DEEP seven years ago. After fighting for DEEP for four years, he went off to fight for the other promotions such as GRANSLAM, REAL, ZST, a Singapore-based Rebel FC, and Brazilian promotion named Arzalet Fighting Championship.

But Ashida came back to DEEP from this year. He defeated Yuki Ohara in May then DJ taiki in September, and in his just third fight back in DEEP, Ashida is getting a big opportunity.

The following are the comments from Uesako and Ashida released from DEEP office:

Uesako –

“Just like what I said after the fight against Iwase-san, I am confident that I am the best Japanese fighter at this weight class. To prove this, I am going to defend this title as often as possible. By all rights, since I just became a champion in July I still had a plenty time till the expiration of the title defense period but I decided to fight Takahiro Ashida in the title fight.  I will be also looking to continue defend this title as much as possible, and want to become the champion that no one has ever seen.”

Ashida –

“First of all, I am honored to be able to fight for the DEEP title. Ever since I began fighting in the DEEP 50 back n October 2010, I have been fighting in the various promotions to gain experience but I think all of those are because of this upcoming title fight.

Uesako is a strong fighter.

He can finish the opponent with his strikings but I am impossible to get beaten by the strikes. I am taking that belt away.  Please remember me.”
