A middleweight bout between Darren Stewart (7-3, 1 NC) and Eric Spicely (11-3) has been booked for May’s UFC Fight Night 130 card in England. Spicely recently announced the bout on social media.
UFC Fight Night 130 will take place on May 27 at Echo Arena in Liverpool. It will mark the promotion’s first visit to “The Pool”. A main event for the card has not yet been determined.
Stewart is a former Killacam Light Heavyweight Champion and Cage Warriors Fighting Championship standout. However, after four fights inside the octagon he’s still looking to pick up his first victory in the UFC.
The 27-year-old Brit originally won his UFC debut in Nov. 2016 with a first-round TKO over Francimar Barroso, but the Brazilian Athletic Commission overturned the result to a No Contest due to an inadvertent headbutt by Stewart. Stewart dropped a decision to Barroso in a rematch in March 2017 and also was submitted by Karl Roberson and Julian Marquez in late 2017.
Spicely is looking to rebound from a pair of stoppage losses to Antonio Carlos Junior and Gerald Meerschaert in the latter half of 2017. Prior to that “The Dream Catcher” had scored submission victories over Thiago Santos and Alessio Di Chirico.
Spicely is now 3-2 inside the octagon and was on a nine-fight unbeaten streak prior to signing with the UFC in 2016. The 31-year-old BJJ black belt has finished seven of his 11 career victories via submission and two by knockout.
