A strawweight matchup between TUF 23 finalist Amanda Cooper (2-2) and Team Alpha Male newcomer Cynthia Calvillo (3-0) is a late addition for this weekend’s UFC 209 card. The promotion recently announced the news.
UFC 209 will be held March 4 from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. A welterweight championship rematch between titleholder Tyron Woodley and challenger Stephen Thompson headlines the card.
Cooper competed as part of Team Claudia on season 23 of The Ultimate Fighter. She initially won bouts over Jamie Moyle and Lanchana Green to get into the finals, but was submitted by tournament winner Tatiana Suarez at the TUF 23 Finale in July of last year. The 25-year-old Michigan native made her return to the octagon this past November with a unanimous decision win over Anna Elmose at UFC Fight Night 99. Cooper has also competed under the Invicta FC and King of the Cage banners.
Calvillo will be making her UFC debut following a third-round knockout of Montana Stewart at LFA 1 in January. Before that the 29-year-old San Jose native defeated Gillian Robertson via decision and knocked out Jessica Sanchez at Global Knockout events in California last year. So far unbeaten, Calvillo has wins at 125, 120 and 115 pounds and is considered the number one ranked female prospect in California at the moment.
