A featherweight showdown between Hall of Famer BJ Penn (16-11-2) and Dennis Siver (22-11, 1 NC) has been announced for UFC Fight Night 112. The promotion confirmed the news this week.
UFC Fight Night 112 will take place June 25 from Chesapeake Energy Arena in Oklahoma City, Okla. A main event has yet to be announced, but the card is expected to air live on FS 1 with early prelims streaming on Fight Pass.
Penn made his featherweight debut against Frankie Edgar in July 2014 but was stopped in the third round via TKO. After two-and-a-half years on the sidelines and multiple scheduling delays, “The Prodigy” returned in January of this year against Yair Rodriguez but was stopped in the second round via TKO. Penn’s last professional win was a 21-second knockout of Matt Hughes at UFC 123 in 2010 and he’s dropped his last four fights in a row. A loss against Siver would regrettably solidify it’s probably time for the former two-division UFC champ to hang up the gloves.
Siver was originally supposed to face Penn in June 2016 but the German fighter was forced to withdraw due to injury. Siver last fought in June 2015 when he dropped a unanimous decision to Tatsuya Kawajiri at UFC Fight Night 69. And prior to that he was stopped by Conor McGregor via TKO in January 2015 at UFC Fight Night 59. The 38-year-old Taekwondo black belt’s last win was a unanimous decision over Charles Rosa back in October 2014. Siver also holds wins at featherweight over Nam Phan and Diego Nunes and is currently 3-3, 1 NC since debuting at 145-pounds in 2012. Siver’s tenth anniversary fighting for the UFC will be next month.
UFC Fight Night 112 now includes:
