Combate Americas’ final event for 2017 sees the headline slot go to Kyra Batara vs. Paulina Grandos while the co-main feature is Andres Quintana vs. Rey Trujillo. CA 19 takes place December 1st at the Freeman Coliseum in San Antonio, TX with a main card broadcast on Telemundo.
Kyra Batara is without a doubt one of the top faces of Combate Americas with a record of 6-4, 4-0 in this promotion. The downside is Batara has had three cancelled bouts in Combate Americas due to injury drawing questions of how healthy and reliable she is. After losing a unanimous decision to Kanako Murata in Rizin Batara bounced back with an armbar of Vanessa Rico Fernandez in July for her most recent outing. 4-2 Paulino Grandos took two years off the sport before suffering a loss to Julia Jones in 2015 then defeated Stephanie Alba and Jenna Serio in 2016. This bout serves as Garndos’ first in thirteen months.
Rey Trujillo has the experience edge over his co-main event opponent Andres Quintana. At 21-19 Trujillo is one of Combate Americas’ most-experienced fighters with victories in Bellator and LFC. Last year was not a good one for Trujillo who lost to Kolton Englund in Fury FC and Matt Bessette in CES MMA with the later drawing into question if he was signed to hand Bessette a win. 12-2 Quintana’s only loss since September 2011 was to Adrian Diaz in TPF back in May 2016. In 2017 Quintana moved to Combate Americas where he defeated Erick Sanchez and Levy Saul Marroquin Salazar with both fights in this promotion being by unanimous decision. Like the CES MMA fight against Bessette it is difficult to see this bout as more than a means of testing Quintana.
