Willams defeats Rumsey, Berzin submits Holmes at CFFC 15

With many of the traffic lights not to mention power in some buildings still out following Friday’s storm that hit Atlantic City it was an achievement that CFFC 15 still went on.  No title shots but plenty of action filled the nine-fight card that went a long way to setting up this summer’s standings in New Jersey in general with Tim Williams emerging as one of the biggest “non-UFC” names in the state.  CFFC 15 took place at Resorts Hotel and Casino in Atlantic City with a live webcast on GoFightLive.

Williams remained undefeated now at 7-0 after a rather one-sided match against Lewis Rumsey in the main event this night.  Rumsey came out striking and attempted a guillotine choke as Williams closed for the takedown but once on the ground “the South Jersey Strangler” went for a guillotine of his own before moving to the rear-naked choke for the win.

Anton BerzinIn the co-main event Anton Berzin made a successful CFFC debut with an impressive defeat of Danny Holmes.  Holmes may not be the fastest fighter but in his short career he has made a reputation for his power.  Berzin wisely shot in early for a takedown only to find himself in a guillotine however after reversing Berzin went from submission attempt to attempt with only a brief standup before returning to the mat to keep going.  Only half-way through the round Berzin had Holmes’ back where he only had to throw two shots at Holmes’ head to open up the armbar.

Mike StewartMike Stewart ended up tied with Michael Murray for fastest fight of the night at just 0:42.  In Stewart’s case it was a quick knockdown that led to strikes on the ground for the TKO, Stewart’s third win in a row in his 8-3 career.

Next up CFFC return August 24th with three title fights including Sean Santella defending his flyweight title.
