A welterweight matchup between Warlley Alves (10-2) and Kiichi Kunimoto (18-6-2) has been added to UFC Fight Night 110 in New Zealand. UFC officials recently announced the booking.
UFC Fight Night 110 will be held June 10 from Vector Arena in Auckland. A heavyweight showdown between Mark Hunt and Derrick Lewis is expected to headline the card.
Alves was on a 10-fight unbeaten streak before running into Bryan Barberena at UFC 198 in May of last year where he dropped a unanimous decision. Alves then returned to action this past November at UFC Fight Night 100 where he dropped a decision to Kamaru Usman. The 26-year-old XGym product and Jungle Fight veteran signed with the UFC in 2014 and racked up wins over Marcio Alexandre Jr., Alan Jouban, Nordine Taleb and Colby Covington before getting derailed by Barberena.
Kunimoto hasn’t fought since he was submitted by Neil Magny at UFC Fight Night 60 in 2015. Prior to that the 35-year-old Japanese submission ace was on a seven-fight winning streak, including wins over Luiz Dutra Jr., Daniel Sarafian and Richard Walsh inside the UFC’s octagon. A former HEAT welterweight champion, Kunimoto has been competing professionally since 2006 and has finished nine of his 18 victories via submission.
With this addition, UFC Fight Night 110 now includes:
- Mark Hunt vs. Derrick Lewis
- Derek Brunson vs. Daniel Kelly
- Joseph Benavidez vs. Ben Nguyen
- Ashkan Mokhtarian vs. John Moraga
- Dan Hooker vs. Ross Pearson
- Damien Brown vs. Vinc Pichel
