Although Sustain and Shooto officials were unofficially informing that its going to happen, many people in the Japanese MMA were assuming, at the absolute earliest, the second show is going to be at the end of the year. Considering today's economy in the Japanese MMA, everyone thought, doing shows at the venus like Tokyo Dome City Hall couple times a year seemed quite a burden for today's Shooto promoters.
Well, I guess most of us were wrong.
The second VTJ show is now officially announced for June 22nd at Tokyo Dome City Hall.
VTJ stands for "Vale Tudo Japan". Yes its the show Shooto created to bring in Rickson Gracie back in the early 90's.
And Sustain and Shooto Federation revived this show as "VTJ" and its basically another version of Shooto show but in cage, under the unified rules.
So, all fights takes place in VTJ will not be considered as official Shooto bouts. This is strictly a special cage show by Shooto.
In the first VTJ back in December of last year, Shooto / Sustain flew in many interesting fighters from overseas such as Ian Loveland, Darrell Montague, and Carlo Prater and lets hope the second show is going to be the same.
It would be nothing but a plus for Japanese fighters to be able to fight in the cage under the unified rules against someone from outside Japan.
Sounds not too difficult but in Japan, this doesn't happen too often in MMA anymore.
The fight cards for VTJ 2 will be announced on later dates.
