Vitaly Minakov to face Antonio Silva under Fight Nights Global banner

Former Bellator champion Vitaly Minakov

Fight Nights Global has announced a heavyweight match featuring a pair of former major promotion champions for their upcoming event. Vitaly Minakov will take on Antonio Silva in St. Petersburg, Russia on June 2.

Minakov holds an undefeated 19-0 record as a professional. In 2013, he defeated Alexander Volkov to claim the Bellator heavyweight title. He then defended the belt once over Cheick Kongo before taking taking a hiatus from the promotion. Minakov continued to fight for Fight Nights. Eventually Bellator stripped him of the title. Since fighting in Bellator, Minakov has gone 5-0 with victories over Adam Maciejewski, Geronimo Dos Santos, Josh Copeland, Peter Graham and DJ Linderman.

The UFC parted way with Silva last year after he lost to Roy Nelson via knockout at UFC Fight Night 95. He ended up his run with knockout losses in six of his last seven bouts. His only win over the stretch came over Soa Palelei at UFC 190. Silva returned to action last November and dropped a controversial decision against Ivan Shtykov. During his extensive career, Silva has scored victories over Alistair Overeem, Andrei Arlovski and Fedor Emelianenko.

Fight Nights Global event usually air live on UFC Fight Pass. The promotion currently has their next event scheduled for March 31 featuring a main event for their heavyweight title between Sergey Pavlovich and Kirill Sidelnikov.
