UFC veteran Sam Sicilia signs with Bellator
Multiple media sources have confirmed that Sam Sicilia has signed a contract with Bellator. Details of his debut with the new promotion were not released, but he will join the company’s featherweight division.
The UFC released Sicilia after he dropped three-straight bouts against Doo Ho Choi, Gabriel Benitez and Gavin Tucker. He joined the UFC in 2012 after competing on the 15th season of “The Ultimate Fighter.” On the reality show, he won his first bout over Erin Beach with an eight-second knockout. However, Sicilia was then eliminated from the competition when he dropped a split decision against Chris Saunders.
During his run in the UFC, Sicilia scored victories over Cristiano Marcello, Godofredo Pepey, Aaron Phillips, Akira Corassani and Yaotzin Meza.
Patricio “Pitbull” Freire currently holds the Bellator featherweight title. The division also includes several top contenders including Daniel Weichel, Daniel Straus and Emmanuel Sanchez.
