Cub Swanson, Artem Lobov, Brandon Moreno and Mike Perry each took home $50,000 in bonus money following their standout performances at UFC Fight Night 108 Saturday in Nashville, Tenn. Swanson and Lobov earned “Fight of the Night” for their five-round main event slugfest, while Moreno and Perry each won “Performance of the Night” honors.
Lobov, a training partner to Conor McGregor, got his shot against a top featherweight contender in Swanson. Though oddsmakers had Lobov a heavy underdog, “The Russian Hammer” held his own against Swanson over 25 minutes. The judges gave the unanimous nod to Swanson who picks up his fourth straight win and second “Fight of the Night” award in a row.
Moreno will get a notch up in the flyweight rankings for taking out No. 9 ranked Dustin Ortiz in the second round. Moreno was able to get Ortiz’s back for a rear-naked choke submission that put the Nashville native to sleep. It is Moreno’s third straight victory since making his octagon debut last year and his second “Performance of the Night” bonus. The 23-year-old Tijuana native has now finished 10 of his 14 wins via submission.
Perry took out fellow welterweight slugger Jake Ellenberger with a vicious right elbow strike knockout in round 2. Ellenberger went down hard and was out cold as Perry walked off with his hands raised. Perry picks up his third knockout win inside the octagon since signing with the organization last year. All 10 of “Platinum’s” career victories have been by knockout.
