UFC adds Kawajiri-Bektic to TUF 22 Finale
The UFC has officially added a featherweight contest to the TUF 22 Finale card. Tatsuya Kawajiri will return to action against Mirsad Bektic. The event takes place Dec. 11 at the Chelsea at the Cosmopolitan in Las Vegas.
Kawajiri made his UFC debut last year after an extensive career on the Japanese scene. He won his first bout in the Octagon with a rear-naked choke submission over Sean Soriano. Since then, “Crusher” has split a pair of decisions with a loss to Clay Guida and a victory over Dennis Siver last June.
In 2010, Kawajiri challenged Shinya Aoki for the Dream lightweight title but fell via submission. The following year, he faced Gilbert Melendez with the Strikeforce lightweight title on the line but failed to make it out of the first round.
Bektic holds an undefeated 10-0 record as a professional. He has won three bouts in the UFC since making his debut in 2014. In his last bout, he scored a second-round knockout over Lucas Martins at UFC Fight Night 67.
In the main event of the TUF 22 Finale, former lightweight champion Frankie Edgar will meet Chad Mendes in a featherweight fight. The bout is expected to determine the next challenger for the featherweight title after Jose Aldo and Conor McGregor unify the belts.
