UFC adds Karolina Kowalkiewicz vs. Claudia Gadelha to UFC 212
The UFC has announced a women’s strawweight fight between recent title contenders Karolina Kowalkiewicz and Claudia Gadelha. The bout will be part of UFC 212, which takes place June 3 at the Jeunesse Arena in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
Kowalkiewicz will be looking to get back on track after falling for the first time in her professional career. She began her career with 10-straight wins before running into champion Joanna Jedrzejczyk at UFC 205. Kowalkiewicz joined the UFC in 2015. She won her first three fights in the promotion over Randa Markos, Heather Jo Clark and Rose Namajunas to earn a shot at the champion.
Gadelha joined the UFC in 2014 with an undefeated record. In her second fight for the promotion, she dropped a close decision to Jedrzejczyk. After defeating former WSOF champion Jessica Aguilar, Gadelha earned another shot at Jedrzejczyk, this time for the strawweight title. However, once again she fell via decision. Last November, the Brazilian got back on track with a decision victory over Cortney Casey.
In the main event of UFC 212, featherweight champion Jose Aldo will take on interim champion Max Holloway in a unification bout.
