Demetrious Johnson, John Moraga, Bobby Green and Lando Vannata were the recipients of UFC 216’s fight-night bonus awards, each earning $50,000 in extra winnings. Johnson and Moraga received “Performance of the Night” awards, while Green and Vannata won “Fight of the Night” honors.
Johnson broke the UFC record for most title defenses for his fifth round submission finish of Ray Borg in the co-main event. “Mighty Mouse” wowed MMA fans worldwide with a suplex armbar that forced Borg to tapout with less than 2 minutes to go in their flyweight championship co-main event. It was Johnson’s eleventh straight successful title defense.
Moraga handed unbeaten flyweight Magomed Bibulatov his first professional loss with a knockout punch just over 90-seconds into the first round. It was a head kick that set up the finish for Moraga as he picks up his second straight win and his second performance bonus inside the octagon since making his UFC debut in 2012.
Lightweight standouts Green and Vannata slugged it out for 15 minutes in a highly entertaining bout that ultimately resulted in split draw. Vannata had a barnburner first round but was deducted a point after an illegal knee. Green rallied in the final two rounds to even things up and both walked away $50,000 richer.
